Gower House
Gower House has a 3 star grading under the Canada Select Grading Program. It is a completely refurbished Victorian era heritage townhouse. Our cozy rooms ( air-conditioned during July and August) have a homy feeling. We have no elevators and lots of staircase. We provide private off street parking. Even though it is located in the very center of the downtown historic properties area, this residential street tends to be very quiet. The house has been designated by the Newfoundland Historic Trust as a point of interest because it was the home of Elsie Holloway, one of the finest studio photographers in Newfoundland. Elsie specialized in portraits, and was known for her style and spirit in capturing spontaneity and mounting photographs in original ways. She documented the departure of Amelia Earhart from Harbour Grace, and was adept at landscape photography. The loft room had been her working studio and was virtually intact when the house was reconstructed in the mid 80's. Studio access had been by a small spiral staircase so Ms Holloway must have had a somewhat petite frame!!Property Name: Gower Guest House
