The Chestnut House is a lovely old Nantucket home located in the core district of Town, an easy walking distance to historic Main Street, museums, and many fine shops and restaurants.The Chestnut House offers you beautifully decorated rooms filled with arts and crafts made by members of the Carl Family and each with private baths. There is also a charming cottage that sleeps four. All accommodations have TV, air conditioning and refrigerators for your convenience. Breakfast coupons to a number of nearby shops are offered in season.
Reservations must be accompanied with a deposit for the full length of your stay.  Please read our cancellation policy for more information.  Room rates are based on double occupancy.  There is a $35 per person rate increase for up to two additional people regardless of age in the suites.  We accept payments made on Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards. There is an 11.7% Massachusetts state tax.
We do have a pet cat living in the owner's quarters.  Bean is not allowed into the guest portion of the house.

Property and Cancellation Policies :
Cancellations:  A phone call to #508.228.0049 is mandatory for cancellations.  If you have booked with us through an online service such as Expedia, you must also call them with a cancellation request.  Because of our size, cancellations affect us significantly.  For any cancellation or change of dates, we must be notified at least 15 days prior to arrival for a refund of your deposit, less a 10% cancellation fee of the total room/s charges.  Post-confirmation changes made to arrival or departure date may or may not be considered a cancellation.  Please consult directly with the Innkeeper who can explain your options in specific terms.  If we can re-book your room at no loss to the Chestnut House, a full refund - less the 10% cancellation charge will be returned.  

If the ferries operate we expect guests to arrive as anticipated whether they planned to arrive by ferry or plane.  If all ferries have been cancelled on a given day then a credit towards a future stay or refund will be issued for that nights lodging.  Once ferry service resumes guests are expected to arrive for the balance of their reservation.  Travel delays, missed connections from airports, medical or any other travel issues will not merit credits or refunds.  These potential unforeseen problems are best addressed with travel insurance, which we recommend.
Terms and Conditions

Reservations:  If you find a room on our website that meets your needs then we will be happy to discuss your plans in person and take your reservation by phone.  We generally will not "hold" rooms without a credit card transaction and ask that payments be made at the same time as the reservation.  If your reservation request is accepted then an email confirmation with a confirmation number will be sent after payment is processed.  We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone and will not be responsible for accidents or injury to our guests or for loss of money, jewelry, or valuables of any kind.  And while accidents do happen, guests will be financially responsible for damage due to gross negligence.
Families with Children:  We are happy to accommodate families with children.  Our room rates are based on double occupancy and an additional of $35 is charged per person regardless of age.  Occupancy of the suites or cottage can not exceed 4 people.
Pets:  Sorry, we do not allow pets.
Smoking:  Our entire inn is a smoke free environment.  
.Check-In and Check-Out:  Check-in time is normally 3:00 PM.  However, if you arrive earlier and your room is not ready, we will be happy to store your luggage.  If you can give us a heads up about an early arrival, we will let housekeeping know so they can prioritize your room.  Check-out time is 11:00 AM.  If you want to enjoy your last day on island, we are happy to store your luggage.  Anything of particular value can be left with us in the office.  We also have a spare bathroom/shower that can be at your disposal after check-out time.
Chambermaid Service:  Please put the "Maid" sign on outside of doorknob by 11:00 AM so Jen can make up your room.  If the "Do Not Disturb" sign is not out in the morning then we will knock and come into your room to tidy up.  Towels left on the floor will be replaced.  The cottage is chambermaided only on request.  Towels left out on the porch bench will be replaced.
Chestnut House is an 1850's house and as such the stairs to the second floor are long and can be a challenge to climb for some.  Suite 1 is our only first floor accommodation.
