Built in 1963 in the heyday of the American motor lodge, The Astro was ambitiously remodeled into a 34-room urban motel in 2017, with original mid-century modern furnishings, a lush edible garden, and a passion for Sonoma County's limitless offerings.
Described as a “gleaming midcentury masterpiece” by the Press Democrat on its opening day on January 2018, The Astro offers visitors to Sonoma County an affordable, urban, adventurously designed headquarters with 34 rooms and suites. Originally built in 1963, the property was born again when members of the team behind the nearby restaurant The Spinster Sisters acquired it to further develop their overlooked corner of Santa Rosa filled with makers and doers. The Astro has been featured in Vogue, GQ, Fodors, Architectural Digest, The Advocate, Goop, Sunset Magazine, Sonoma Magazine, Outside Magazine, San Francisco Weekly, Eater San Francisco, The North Bay Bohemian, The Points Guy, Peloton Magazine and more. For decades The Astro had been a neighborhood blight, a rundown center for drugs and prostitution. Now, thanks to a thoughtful and ambitious remodel carried out by artists and artisans, it stands brightly in a geographic center of a world class wine, beer, food wedding and cycling destination. The Astro Team is led by Spinster chef/owner Liza Hinman. Liza Hinman has been a part of the Sonoma County restaurant community since 2004. She was a staffer at Gourmet Magazine before attending The California Culinary Academy, subsequently working at Delfina and Bizou and landing the executive chef position at Santi. In the summer of 2012, Liza opened The Spinster Sisters. Under her leadership, the restaurant has earned a substantial following among locals, tourists, chefs and food writers. In the summer of 2017, the James Beard Foundation selected Liza from over 100 chef/owners nationwide for their Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program.

Property and Cancelation Policies :
Cancellations: Reservations can be changed or cancelled up to 48 hours prior to arrival. No-shows, cancellations or changes made after this time will result in a charge for the first night’s stay to the credit card provided.
Group booking cancellations: Groups of 3-5 rooms can be changed or cancelled up to 7 days prior to arrival. Groups or room blocks of 5+ rooms can be changed or cancelled 30 days prior to arrival. No-shows, cancellations or changes made after this time will result in a charge for the first night’s stay for each room booked to the credit card provided.

Terms and Conditions
Checking In and Out: Check-in at 3PM, Check-out at 11AM. If you arrive early, we’d be happy to hold your bags so that you can explore the motel and the neighborhood while your room is readied. Need a late check out? Just ask. We’ll make every effort to accommodate you.
ID, PAYMENT and DEPOSIT: A valid government or state-issued photo ID is required at check-in. Please also have your confirmation number and the card used during the booking process. Payment is due in full at check-in. Deposit: We place a $50 hold on your credit card for damages and incidentals. ($100 deposit if paid in cash) This deposit will be refunded at checkout if you haven’t incurred any charges. Please allow up to seven business days for your deposit to register back to your account.
MINIBAR: Each room is equipped with a mini-fridge containing water and locally sourced beer and snacks available for purchase. You will be charged for goods consumed during your stay when checking out.
SMOKING: The Astro Motel is a smoke-free space. Smoking is strictly prohibited in rooms and anywhere on the grounds. You will be charged a $500 smoking fee if any evidence of smoking (cigarette butts, ashes, strong scents, etc.) is discovered on The Astro Motel premises.
PETS: The Astro has a limited number of pet-friendly rooms, and charges $35 per pet per night. Guests traveling with pets will be asked to sign a pet damage agreement.
PARKING: Parking is available onsite and in our overflow lots at 405 & 421 Santa Rosa Avenue. Guests are welcome to park at either location at no additional cost. Buses, RVs, Trailers, and vehicles that appear to be used as storage units are to use overflow parking. Inoperable vehicles are not allowed.
Maximum Room Occupancy: All occupants are required to be registered on this document. Two people per room are allowed in all Queen rooms. Four people per room are allowed in all Double rooms. If you’re bringing small children, the Astro has a limited number of travel cribs, available at no charge - please reserve one if you anticipate needing it.
Bicycles: Cyclists who bring bikes to The Astro will be pleased to find easy storage, building and repair facilities.
DAMAGES: The Astro is a museum of fine art furnished with one-of-a-kind furniture, fixtures, rugs and art work, which can be very costly. Any stains (color/dye, makeup, etc.), damage, or destruction of hotel property, whether accidental or willful, is the financial responsibility of the registered guest for each particular room.
LOST AND FOUND: We are not responsible for any items left behind at The Astro. Any item(s) found left behind on The Astro property will be held for 30 days. After 30 days any found item(s) will be discarded. If you feel you have left any personal belongings at The Astro please call us immediately to let us know.
KEYCARDS: We are not allowed to give room keys to anyone except registered guests. A replacement fee may be charged for damaged or lost keycards.
