Chilamate Rainforest is a family-run conservation and regenerative tourism project founded in 2007. Native Sarapiqueño Davis Azofeifa and Irish-Canadian Meghan Casey created Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat with the dream of working together on a project that would benefit the local community and help protect this critical section of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. They have lived on site for 17 years with their three amazing children — Lluvia, Aedan, and Kiara — who have each grown up deeply connected to the land and continue to be an integral part of the retreat.
These days everyone is involved in different projects, so you may meet one of the family at reception — but not always! Rest assured, you will be warmly welcomed and well cared for by our reception team, led by Davis and Lluvia, along with our wonderful local staff.
At Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat you’ll enjoy riverfront access to the beautiful Sarapiquí River, opportunities for river adventures, and trails through private rainforest rich with wildlife. We offer rustic, nature-immersed lodging, homemade organic meals, a small bar with beer and wine, and a gift shop featuring local artisan crafts — all within a welcoming, family-friendly environment.
We are also delighted to share our self-guided Forest Therapy Trail, created to support gentle, meaningful connection with nature through curated invitations and spacious moments of reflection. Guests are welcome to explore the “sunny day” and “rainy day” routes at their own pace.
Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat is committed to regenerative tourism, community wellbeing, and supporting rural families in the region. We work closely with local partners and community tourism initiatives. If you’d like to experience authentic rural life with one of the incredible families in our area, just ask at reception — we’ll be happy to connect you. PURA VIDA
