Welcome to Aquapackers, New Zealand's only floating backpackers accommodation in New Zealand. Owners Jane and Mark welcome you to experience an unforgettable stay on their catamaran which is situated in Anchorage Bay, in the heart of the Abel Tasman National Park.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of Abel Tasman National Park from the deck of their specially converted catamaran and relax in your own private cabin, or share in a backpackers dorm.
Aquapackers has 2 x 7 bed backpacker dorm rooms (5 singles and 1 double bed in each dorm) and 3 double cabins offering private accommodation, one of which can also be changed to a 4-bed room with your choice of either 4 singles, or a double and 2 singles. All bedding is provided, and the rate includes a delicious BBQ dinner in the evening and continental breakfast in the morning.
Aquapackers is open October - April. Aquapackers is open from October 1 through to 30 April every year. While we close for winter you can still book accommodation on our website for next season, or contact us by phone or e-mail for more information. During this time we may be out of range for several days but we'll always endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
There is no road access to Aquapackers. You can either walk in on the Abel Tasman Coastal track, or take a water taxi. Walking along the Abel Tasman track it's 12.4km and approximately 3 1/2 hours from road end in Marahau, or 32.1km and approximately 11 hours (best done over 2 days) from road end in Totaranui. Water taxis depart regularly from Marahau and Kaiteriteri and take about 30 minutes, bookings are recommended.
Alcohol on board. Aquapackers is not licensed to sell alcohol but we understand you might enjoy a cold beer or wine after a day in the park so you are welcome to BYO. This kiwi tradition means you can Bring Your Own alcoholic beverages with you to enjoy on board.
No children under the age of 7. While we take the comfort and safety of our guests very seriously, there are some inherent risks associated to staying on a boat. As a result, we are unable to accommodate children under the age of 7 – no exceptions. Children aged 8 years old and over are welcome but need to be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Please let us know at the time of booking if there are any children in your party and what their ages are so we can cater for them.
