In 914, the great Viking adventurer and pirate, Regnall, a grandson of Ivor the Boneless, established a base here and built a Longphort or ships haven, which would in time become a modern city. Today, Waterford is known for Waterford Crystal, a legacy of the city's former glass-making industry. Glass, or crystal, was manufactured in the city from 1783 until early 2009 when the factory there was shut down after the receivership of Waterford Wedgwood plc. There is so much to see and do in Waterford and its surrounding county & counties. Waterford attracts many tourists each year due to its beautiful buildings, its liveability, its friendly public space, its weather, and its easy access to the Comeragh Mountains and the Copper Coast.
