With the upstairs Lions in particular, I wanted to keep it natural, earthy, textural, and simple. You'll have tons of light thanks to a wall of windows that are original to the house. The walk-in shower turned out better than imagined, and has plenty of room for two. The travertine tiles' unique texture and placement create a fun and interesting play of light and shadows. Relax outside on the deck, or head to the front garden to bask in the light of the chandeliers. The importance of Fort Mose; \"In St. Augustine lie the ruins of Fort Mose, built in 1738 as the first free black settlement in what would become the United States.\" *Fort Mose was the first room name I was certain I would use. I feel lucky to have such an important part of history so nearby, and I knew I was going to incorporate it into my inn and life. I will be collecting art from local black artists with which to fill the room, and perhaps sell. Designed by me (Josie) and built by Adam, his dad, and a drifter carpenter named Charlie, it is larger than life and deeply comfortable. The bed tucks into a one-of-a-kind texture wall that I hope brings to mind Coquina - the strongest (and arguably most unique) concrete in the world, made of shells. Coquina was widely used in the construction of this town as well as her historic fort - and is the reason no one ever took it! (Pirates did, however, burn the town down a couple times). The room is extremely photogenic. It boasts the biggest and most ridiculously expensive of all the floor mirrors, as well as our largest bathroom. Under your feet in the kitchenette area you'll find arabesque tiles (hand poured and set by yours truly). She has a concrete countertop made by our team, for the kitchenette, and as with all of the rooms she has a fridge, microwave and premium coffee for you to make for your beloved in the morning. I recommend sitting outside in the garden for coffee sipping and daydreaming. Pel, as we call her, has a small walk-in shower, and a super comfy queen sized bed. The soft lighting and exposed brick in this room are so romantic you may just want to stay in and snuggle. Tucked into the roof, you'll sink into a brand new king sized mattress and become enamored with the intimate A-frame (please watch your noggins!) and mindfully placed foliage above you. The walk-in shower is massive and textural and different-in a good way, just like the rest of the inn. Adam made y'all a huge, perfectly chunky concrete top for the dry bar, and the adorable coffee area is my favorite in the house. Isabel has our only fireplace (nonworking of course, but pretty) and the most beautiful bathroom. The claw foot soaker tub is so deep and perfectly shaped that your boobs & your knees will be submerged in water AT THE SAME TIME. Often if the room is empty I will hide in there and turn my brain off for an hour or two. There's a tray across it for your book and your wine. 🥰 I spent weeks and weeks on the bathroom floor. I've got a thing for a good mosaic. The shower is separate from the tub of course. I once told some guests that he could take a shower while she bathes. Later that night I got a [tastefully covered up] photo of them doing just that. 😆 Guests are the best sometimes. Isabel is so pretty and luxurious to me. Every time I walk in I want to just sink into that huge bed and not do anything else for the rest of the day but if I did my housekeepers would swat me with a newspaper. I pay them to keep me on track as much as making sure the rooms are immaculate. Isabel has the front porch, is right off the front garden, has wood floors and the cutest little breakfast room with lots of natural light. The kitchenette is a really pretty built in that used to be the grand doorway to the kitchen when it was a single family home, who know how long ago! I have wanted a dark room for such a long time but never had the guts. Pax is my favorite room. I LOVE the way the light sinks into the walls and I would choose this shower over the rest of them. I spent about a month painting the 9 by 5 art piece above the bed - even had it out at a happy hour in the garden one night and some guests helped me! When I lay under it and look into the room I can imagine Hemingway sitting in the corner reading a book and laughing to himself. A lot of the rooms feel like women to me. This room feel masculine, strong with Athena bringing her female energy to soften its edges. I lived in Pax while working on the other rooms so it feels special to me.
