THE STORE is a former neighborhood grocery reincarnated as an owner-occupied guesthouse with business-friendly amenities. We offer two upper-story guest rooms and a common space designed for comfort and creative thinking. We offer an urbane, loft-like interior, useful amenities and a manicured courtyard--the perfect respite for resting, working, or both.
We specialize in well-designed, day-lit spaces that meld thoughtful amenities, industrial details and creative conversation.
Our ground floor Meeting Area is a 1,300 sq. ft. loft-like interior and acts as our Entrance Lobby with limited access for overnight guests. The entire space may be reserved separate from or in conjunction with guest room accommodations between the hours of 8 am - 6pm daily. An hourly access fee applies. Amenities include contemporary furnishings, an industrial-style kitchen, to a screened-in porch and secret water garden in the side yard. The spatial character is modern and friendly with thoughtful details, abundant natural light and architectural flair. Technology features include Wi-Fi and Ethernet, Powerpoint Projector/Screen and a high-end Audio System that's MP-3 compatible. Guest room privacy, security and access is not compromised by Meeting Area activities and your peace and quiet will not be affected. Property and Cancelation Policies :
THE STORE is a small (very small) locally owned guest house, so we appreciate your kind attention to and consideration of our cancellation policies below.
Please note: Reservations made through outside travel agencies (OTAs) or websites must be cancelled through that agency or website and are subject to their individual terms and conditions.
- 24-Hour Grace Period: No fees charged for bookings canceled within 24 hours of booking.
- Advance Notice: Guests can cancel free of charge (including taxes and fees) until 14 days before arrival.
- Moderate Notice: Thirteen (13) days to three (3) days prior to arrival will be charged a flat fee of $50 + cc processing fee.
- Short Notice: Cancellations less than three (3) days (72 hours) prior to arrival will be charged the total price of the reservation.

TAXES
A total tax rate of 13.25% applies to all room nights as follows:
- North Carolina Sales Tax (4.75%)
- Wake County Sales Tax (2%)
- Wake County Transit Sales and Use Tax (0.5%)
- Wake County Occupancy Tax (6%)
Our mission is to provide an alternative experience away from corporate chains and antique mansions. THE STORE's proprietor is an architect by profession and an innkeeper by passion. We offer a unique, day-lit respite that melds thoughtful amenities, industrial details and personal service in a historic downtown neighborhood. Regardless, THE STORE is not a perfect fit for every overnight guest, hence, we kindly request your attention and consideration of the following:
GENERAL FYI
- THE STORE is owner-occupied who acts as a personal concierge (like an old-fashioned innkeeper.)
- THE STORE is not ADA compliant or wheelchair accessible. Sleeping rooms are adjacent to one another and located on the second floor accessible only via one flight of stairs. We apologize, but we are not equipped to accommodate non-ambulatory guests, small children or babies.
- Room access is through the downstairs meeting lounge space which is available for guests to enjoy, although cooking or food prep is
- Interior partitions between rooms are acoustically separated, but voices from the hallway and footsteps over THE STORE’s historic creaky floors are to be expected.
- Quiet hours (indoors and outdoors) are 10:00 pm- 7:00 am. Please respect your fellow guests and our neighbors.
- THE STORE does NOT provide breakfast; however complimentary snacks are provided in each guest room.
- Our downstairs kitchen is for catering use only. Cooking access is strictly prohibited.
- Smoking is allowed outdoors only in designated areas . Smoking is strictly NOT allowed indoors. A $300 fee will be charged for violations.
- Guests must be of legal adult age (18 or older), have a valid government issued ID and credit card to book a reservation.
- We must be sensitive to guests with allergies; therefore, our policy is that we can NOT accommodate pets. However, by law, we are required to accommodate service animals that meet ADA definitions and requirements.
- Overnight guests have full access to our ground floor common spaces including our Meeting Lounge, Screen Porch and Outdoor Gardens; however cooking privileges are not allowed.
- The entire ground floor commons may be reserved separate from or in conjunction with guest room accommodations between the hours of 8 am - 6pm daily for professional use only with limited occupancy. These include: meetings, workshops, retreats, retail pop-ups and media production (specifically, photography and audio-visual).
- Social events such as weddings, receptions and parties are strictly prohibited.
- An hourly fee applies as does discounts for guest room rental and pricing packages are available. Please contact us for additional information.
- Guest room privacy, security and access are not compromised by Meeting Lounge activities.
- Guests are requested to inform THE STORE of estimated arrival time (ETA) in advance so that the Owner/Innkeeper is available to personally welcome you and check you in. Should your travel schedule change, please text or call with updates. Please use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly using the contact details in your confirmation.
- Standard check-in time is between 3:00 PM and 10 PM daily. Check-out time is 11:00 AM. Early and late arrivals can be accommodated through special request, but are not guaranteed. Please contact the property prior to the day of your arrival. Guests will be notified via text or email so as to allow an earlier check-in time. However, guests may arrange to drop-off luggage anytime ahead of check-in. Likewise, guests may arrange a later pick-up time upon departure.

- If taking an Uber, Lift or taxi, please tell the driver to drop you off at the WHITE 2-story residence on the SE CORNER of Devereux and Gaston Sts.
- If driving, 24-hour street parking along Gaston St. and immediately adjacent to THE STORE is provided free via nighty permit provided. We also offer one free off-street space (based on availability) via the gravel driveway accessible from Gaston St.
- Entry is from the upper courtyard at the rear of the building off Gaston St. Please come to the pair of doors off that courtyard and ring the bell.
- The Innkeeper/Host personally greets every guest upon arrival to issue a building key, demonstrate how the locking mechanism operates, escort you to your room and check you in;
- Remote or "contactless" check-in is not available.
- Pathways, entrances and corridors are lighted for safety.
- The Owner/Innkeeper greets all guests at check-in and will demonstrate operation of the key-locked door. During check-in, you guests will be given a map and oriented to the local area, its culture, and a variety of restaurant/entertainment suggestions--including concierge services.
SECURITY AND LIABILITY
- By booking a reservation all guests agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the owner, employees, contractors and agents of and from any liabilities, costs, penalties, or expenses arising out of and/or resulting from access to the premises.
- Guest accommodations are equipped with passage locks only—meaning they are lockable from the inside only and are not lockable while you are away. However, since THE STORE is owner-occupied, the security of your belongings and your personal safety are closely monitored--like having a on-duty, onsite security guard.
- Guests are responsible for all damages to the room (other than the ‘normal wear and tear’) during the term of their stay.
- Guests authorize THE STORE to charge the cost to repair such damage to the guest credit card - including but not limited to cleaning, fixing or replacing, upholstery, furniture, rugs, floors, walls, fixtures, and destroyed or excessively soiled towels, linens and other soft goods.
- THE STORE may not be a perfect fit for every guest, but we try our best to create a high-quality experience that is above and beyond comfortable, hospitable and safe. Whenever our best efforts fail, we make every effort to make up the difference. If any guest is not legitimately satisfied with the overall cleanliness, quality or services provided, please notify the owner immediately so we may correct or resolve the issue to your satisfaction.
