Choosing The Historic Plains Hotel, you and your guests will be treated to the same fanfare and hospitality as what greeted visitors to Cheyenne for the past 112 years. Located in the heart of downtown Cheyenne, The Historic Plains Hotel has been refurbished to its original splendor of 1911. Back then, automobiles were just coming onto the market and only the rich could afford such contraptions, anyways. Horse drawn wagons and buggies and of course the Iron Horse (passenger trains) were the basic forms of transportation. Oh yes and bicycles were all the rage and everyone was finding it easier and faster to peddle anywhere in the city. Now mind you Highways, byways and streets were not paved, most were just big ruts in the dirt.
In 1912, Carl G. Fisher, an automobile enthusiast, was instrumental in developing and paving the transcontinental highway be built connecting the New York City with San Francisco, and so it was. That very same "Lincoln-way" passes right in front of The Historic Plains Hotel. Another highway called the CanAm running from the Gulf of Mexico into Canada passes our other entrance, causing us to sit right at the Crossroads of America. Today the hotel boast a quaint 131 rooms with meeting space and plans for a restaurant and bar. All rooms come with a flat screen TV, a small fridge and coffee making facilities. Guests enjoy a large private bathroom equipped with a hairdryer. Many shops, restaurants and parks surround the hotel and guest enjoy a fitness center and laundry facilities.
Wyoming had loads of Cowboys, Indians, Rail Barons and assorted foreign nobility roaming the plains in 1911 and our hotel honors those men and women today. The Hotel has been host to such great personalities as W. F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, President Teddy Roosevelt, Jimmy Stewart, Debbie Reynolds, Charles Lindbergh, President John F. Kennedy and many, many more. Providing outstanding accommodation to the weary traveler has been our tradition since opening. We offer everything from a Bunk House Room to and luxurious Presidential Suite. We are an extended stay hotel so feel free to make your reservations for up to 30 days at a time.
With lots of stories and folklore to capture the hearts of young and old, come join us on our journey into the future and add your name to our register as you "Step through our doors; step back in time and experience the legend!"
We look forward to serving you!

Just make sure your furry friends do their business in the designated area and stay on a leash when outside the room. No rogue poppers and, sorry … no pets in the lobby (that’s the health department’s call and we’ve got to heed their rules). Pets cannot be left unattended in rooms at any time. While there is absolutely no pet fee, there is a $200 deposit required in the form of a credit card pre-authorization. Should your furry friend shed a great amount or have a potty accident in the room, a cleaning fee will be charged to the credit card on file in the amount of $200.00. Should your pet cause property or item damage, an incidental fee will be charged at market value to your credit card on file. Any funds remaining from the pre-authorized amount will be released after check-out and, dependent upon your bank’s policy, will reflect on your account within 10 business days. No venomous creatures
We want you to have a great time when you are here. But if things get too crazy, we go by the old-school rule of ‘you break it, you buy it’ and property damages or missing items will be charged to your credit card at market value. By parking a vehicle at our facility, you (and your guests) are doing so on your own accord. The hotel does not take responsibility or accept liability for damage, accident or loss to your vehicle or personal property. But guess what? We’ve got state-of-the-art surveillance cameras watching over the parking lot so, should anything seem amiss, let us know, and we’ll check out the footage.
