Face masks and distancing are required. All guests are required to wear a face mask while in the indoor community spaces of the hotel, including the lobby. You must wear a
mask to enter our building. If you do not bring a mask, you will be given a mask at check in. Employees are required to wear a mask at all times. Face masks, hand sanitizer, and COVID-19 information are available.
Health checks: All staff have received extensive training on COVID-19 mitigation and are monitored for health conditions before starting each shift. Guests are required to confirm that they are not ill, do not have a temperature over 100 degrees, and do not have reason to believe they have been exposed to COVID-19.
Enhanced cleaning and operational procedures: Our team uses CDC- and EPA-approved virucidal and antibacterial cleaning and laundry processes to keep you safe. Read more about our extensive health and safety measures.
Daily housekeeping is temporarily suspended. In accordance with our updated COVID-19 related procedures and policies, no staff will enter your guest room during your stay unless explicitly approved by management. For stays of 5 nights or longer, we will contact you prior to arrival to discuss extended-stay housekeeping options.
New desk hours: We have temporarily reduced our front desk hours. Our desk agents will staff our front desk from 8:30 am to 11:00 pm. Don’t worry, staff will be available throughout the day by email, phone and text via the Whistle app.
Early check-ins by appointment only. Due to our stringent and lengthy housekeeping procedures, reduced desk hours, and limited space for safely storing luggage, early check ins must be pre-arranged. If you plan to arrive before 3:00pm, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance so we can indicate if an early check in is possible.

CANCELLATION & CHANGE POLICY: As a small, independent property, we ask for your understanding in respecting our cancellation, change and no-show policy. Please read carefully. If you must change, shorten or cancel your reservation, do so within the timeframe of (3) business days. If a reservation is cancelled or shortened after the cancellation period expires, the guest is responsible for full payment of the original reservation unless the room(s) is re-booked. Changes or cancellations must be made via phone or by email, and you must receive a confirmation email from Sterling Hotel. There are no refunds for early departure. CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT -Minimum age to register: 21-Early checkout-fee: $0.00 - Late checkout-fee: $50.00 up to 1pm. Anything after 1pm is an additional $25.00. Check in is between 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. If you are arriving later than 10:00, please let us know so that we can make proper arrangements. Checkout is 11:00 a.m. If you require more time, a late checkout can be arranged with prior notification for an additional fee. Please submit your request the night before.
GROUP RESERVATIONS: Due to our 16 room offerings and to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all guests - we have special policies regarding group reservations. Group reservations are limited to a maximum of 26 guests (typically 13 rooms), except in the case of full-property rentals. For full-property rentals, a maximum of 32 guests are allowed. Before booking online, please email us regarding your group’s stay so that we can mutually determine if our hotel is a good fit for you. All group rentals of 13 or more rooms will be reviewed by management prior to official confirmation. Therefore, reservation requests submitted online for 13 or more rooms, or individual online reservation requests that constitute a group reservation of 13 or more rooms, are considered unconfirmed requests until personally confirmed by a manager via email.
HOTEL ACCESSIBILITY: Our boutique hotel has 16 rooms in total. Two rooms are located on the first floor and offer a ramp and wheelchair lift access a short distance from our front entrance area. The Sterling comes equipped with a spacious elevator and an additional access point through our partner’s wedding venue facility if the front entrance is backed up. Our Standard King Room (Room 102) is ADA-accessible, featuring widened doors for entry, mid-height light switches and power outlets, lever-type door handles, grab bars in the bathroom, a lower hanging space in the closet, and visual and auditory notification features. Please note that this room features a bathtub with a shower seat and handheld shower; as well as a roll-in shower. When booking online, if Room 102 is not available, please email or call and we will attempt to make it available for your stay. Prior to and during your stay, please advise if special accommodations or accessible parking is needed and our team will work with you to ensure you have a wonderful visit.
HOUSEKEEPING AND IN-ROOM AMENITIES (COVID-RELATED UPDATES): In accordance with our updated procedures and policies put in place to protect our guests and our team, no staff will enter your room during your stay unless explicitly approved by management. Please note that daily housekeeping services will not be provided during your stay. Extra towels will be available in your room and we will contact you ahead of your arrival to arrange any service items or amenities you need. We will arrange in-room amenities and minibar snack purchases ahead of your arrival. MINIMUM AGE: You must be 21 to rent our property or occupy a guest-room without a parent.
MINIMUM NIGHT STAY: Our standard minimum night stay on weekends is 2 nights, requiring booking of 2 consecutive nights in the same room (for example, Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday). Some holidays and special events may subject to longer minimums. Rooms are occasionally released for 1-night stays, based on availability.
NO SMOKING, INCENSE, CANDLES, ETC: The Sterling is strictly a non-smoking facility. Smoking is allowed only in the designated areas outside of the property. Smoking is not allowed in the building, in guest rooms, in public outdoor areas or in private outdoor patios and courtyards. Evidence of smoking including the smell of smoke in the room or in the public and private outdoor areas will result in a minimum $350 charge plus the cost of any damaged property. (Yes friends, we mean any kind of smoke.) No burning of any sort of object including candles or incense is allowed, and no other strongly-scented items are allowed in rooms. All of the above are subject to cleaning and damage fees.
OCCUPANCY: All guest rooms accommodate double or quadruple occupancy, max. A $100 per night plus tax usage fee will be charged for unauthorized guests beyond the allowed occupancy limit per room.
DESK HOURS AND AFTER-HOURS SERVICE: The Sterling Hotel is a boutique and independent facility. Management and staff are available between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. to tend to your needs. A number will be provided for you to call, should you need assistance at any hour, day or night.
*COVID-related updates: Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, we will encourage contactless communication with our staff whenever possible. You may text or call us with any questions or service needs at the number provided when you check-in. We have temporarily reduced our front desk hours, and therefore our desk agents will be on-site from 8:30 am to 11:00 pm. Staff will be available to serve you throughout the day if needed by email, phone and text.
SMOKING POLICY: The Sterling Hotel is completely a non-smoking facility. Any charges resulting from deodorizing the property or other smoke related maintenance shall be the financial responsibility of the occupant of said room; this includes but is not limited to false alarms with the Sacramento Fire and Police Departments and lost revenue. Furthermore, the act of smoking voids any discount rate and said occupant will be financially responsible for all discounted room revenues.
DAMAGE POLICY: Damage to hotel property – We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of rectifying damage, caused by the deliberate, negligent or reckless act of the guest to the hotel’s property or structure. Should this damage come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guest’s credit / debit card, or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address. We will however make every effort to rectify any damage internally prior to contracting specialists to make the repairs, and therefore will make every effort to keep any costs that the guest would incur to a minimum.
REMOVAL OF HOTEL PROPERTY: We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of replacing any items that are removed from the premises by them without consent. The charge will be the full replacement amount of the missing item, including any carriage charges. Should the fact that the item is missing come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guests credit/debit card, or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address.

Additional free parking is available on nearby streets. Please respect the neighboring businesses and do not park in their lots; you may be towed. PARTIES, EVENTS AND GATHERINGS: We have a NO tolerance policy for guests who disturb other guests. If this is the case, you will be asked to leave and will not be provided a refund. Due to the intimate nature of our property, private events that include guests not staying at the property require approval. A separate events agreement and additional fees may apply. No parties, group gatherings, company meetings, etc. may be held without prior approval, and may forfeit your reservation without refund.
PETS: We are allowing your fluffy friends for a flat fee of $50.00. Please be mindful of any damages or stains caused by your pet, as you may be subject to additional cleaning fees.
QUIET HOURS: Please show respect for other guests and keep noise to a minimum between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m -when quiet hours are enforced.
