The historic Harbor House Inn rests on the edge of the rustic Pacific Coast in Mendocino. The Inn was first built in 1916 by American Architect Louis Christian Mullgardt, to showcase the beauty of the redwoods. It has since evolved and stands as both a timeless sanctuary and culinary destination. The Inn is surrounded by the majestic old growth redwood forest, and the dramatic coastline of California. Following a recent remodel, the property features classic and antique furnishings, fireplaces, decks, and pathways to magnificent gardens with vistas that lead to a private beach.  Guests can relax in our stately sitting room and take in the breathtaking ocean views from our dining room. Miles of pristine beaches, cliffs, and rocky shorelines invite guests to embody the spontaneous pace of nature while savoring the wild beauty that is the North Coast of California.

Breakfast is included for all inn guests. Our property features a restaurant available for dinner service Friday - Monday evenings, and in-room service Thursday - Monday evenings. Note that the restaurant is closed Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Dining reservations are required for all guests due to limited seating and can be booked through Tock at: https://www.exploretock.com/theharborhouseinn/. Property and Cancellation Policies :

Cancellations

Inn: Any cancellations received within 1 week of your stay will result in the forfeit of the one-night deposit including taxes and fees. For groups reserving three or more rooms, any cancellations received within 30 days of your stay will result in the forfeit of the one-night deposit including taxes and fees.

Dining: Our dinners are pre-paid in advance using our reservation ticketing system, Tock. We highly recommend booking dinner as soon as you book your stay with us, as the restaurant requires a reservation, and has 1 flat seating each evening at 6:00PM. We require at least 48-hour notice for dinner cancellations in order to receive a refund of your reservation. Any reservations cancelled within 48 hours of your dinner reservation are non-refundable.

Massage Services: We require at least 24 hour-notice from the time of your scheduled massage. Any cancellations received within the 24-hour period before the massage are non-refundable and will include a 20% auto-gratuity for the scheduled therapist. 

The Harbor House Inn is a small business that includes a ten-bedroom bed and breakfast located on the remote Mendocino coast as well as a 20-seat restaurant. We thank you for understanding our cancellation policies, and for booking dinner as soon possible due to limited availability. 

Terms and Conditions

Dinner Reservations: All reservations regarding the restaurant are prepaid through Tock and must be booked separately from your inn reservation. We recommend booking dinner at the same time as your inn booking, as we have limited tables for our dining experience. We have a strict 48-hour cancellation policy. Cancellations made within that window of time will not be refunded. Younger guests must be 15 years or older to partake in the dining experience.  For inquiries regarding larger parties and buyouts, please contact us directly by calling 707-877-3203, or emailing us at reservations@theharborhouseinn.com.

Dietary Restrictions/Allergies:
 In order to maximize your dining experience, the kitchen team at the Inn kindly asks that you indicate any allergies or dietary restrictions when making your reservation as we may not be able to accommodate them within less than 48 hours’ notice. Aversions or allergies flagged at the time of dinner service cannot be accommodated, due to the extensive preparation for each meal.

Group Reservations: For groups reserving three or more rooms, a 30-day cancellation policy applies. Guests planning events and weddings at any large local venue must contact us directly before booking any rooms.

Accommodations:

  • How to Book: For inn reservations, please book directly through our website, or contact us by phone at 1(800)720-7474 between the hours of 7:30 am - 6pm. Reservations for the inn will require a one-night minimum deposit including tax and fees.
  • Occupancy: Our room rates are based on double occupancy. Please note that we do not allow more than two people in a room.

    Checking In and Out:
  • Check-in from 3pm-6pm Thursday through Monday, and 3pm-5pm Tuesday through Wednesday. For later arrivals, please notify our staff of your arrival time 24 hours in advance. We are available to hold luggage for early arrivals.
  • Check-out is at 11:00 am.
  • Other Policies: We do not allow smoking, pets on the property, or children under the age of 15.

Pet Policy: The Harbor House Inn is a small and intimate property that is unable to accommodate animals/pets. Notwithstanding, Harbor House Inn does allow and accommodate ADA qualifying service animals, which under ADA regulations are not considered pets. However, if a guest’s service animal causes property damage to the Inn, the guest will be liable for those damages and charged for the cost of repairing and/or cleaning the damage to Harbor House Inn. Note that emotional-support animals or other animals/pets  do not qualify as service animals under ADA regulations or Harbor House Inn policy. Violators of Harbor House Inn No Pets/Animals policy will be charged an additional $300/night on their credit card to cover room cleaning and fumigating fees for the guest room their non-ADA qualifying service animal occupied.
No Smoking Policy: Harbor House Inn enforces its No Smoking policy, which applies to all guest rooms, patios, common areas, building interiors and within 25 feet of all buildings on the Harbor House Inn property. Our guests expect their rooms to be free from the smell of tobacco and marijuana smoke; therefore, violations of this policy cause damages to Harbor House Inn because its rooms that have been smoked in require 3-days of non-occupancy to allow the rooms to ventilate after being treated. Accordingly, violators of this policy will be charged on their credit card an additional 3-days occupancy at the nightly rate of the guest room that they smoked in.
No Open Flame Policy: Harbor House Inn enforces its No Open Flame policy, which applies to all guest rooms, patios, common areas, grounds, and building interiors for the safety of our historic building and grounds. For the safety of everyone in the inn, the use of open flames (candles, incense, matches, lighters etc.) is strictly prohibited. Any guest found using a source of open flame will be asked to leave the inn without a refund.

Reservation Changes: Last-minute changes and additions are subject to availability.
Dinner Cancellations:
We require at least 48-hour prior notice for dinner cancellations, or else your reservation is non-refundable. 
Inn Cancellations: Any cancellation made within 1 week of your check-in date will result in the forfeit of the one-night deposit including taxes and fees. Any alterations to the length of your stay within 1 week of check-in will result in a charge of the full amount of your original stay. 
The Harbor House Inn is a ten-bedroom Bed and Breakfast, which has an eight-table restaurant located on the remote Mendocino coast. We appreciate your understanding of the circumstances requiring our cancellation policy.

Prices and Taxes:
The inn charges 11% Transient Occupancy Tax each night. All other sales on the property will include a 7.875% sales tax.
Payment and Terms at Check in, Check-out
: Room accommodations require advance payment of one night’s stay + taxes to serve as a deposit. The remainder of your stay will be billed at time of check-out.

Site Security:
  Our site uses encrypted technologies and state of the art (SSL) sockets to protect your transactions and personal information from being compromised.

Accessibility or Special Needs
: Harbor House Inn offers handicap accessible walkways, an elevator, and room for guests who request additional assistance.

Parking:
 Our parking lot provides 21 parking spaces at the front of the Inn. 

Events at the Inn:
Our property will be available for rent during special events, which includes weddings, corporate retreats, and other special occasions.

Property Damage:
 Harbor House Inn reserves the right to charge individual guests or representative (lead) guests for the cost of rectifying damage caused by the deliberate, negligent, or reckless acts of a guest or guests to the Inn’s property and/or third-party property.  If such damage is discovered during the stay it will be drawn to the guest’s attention, but if discovered after a guest/guests depart(s) then the Inn may charge the responsible guest’s credit / debit card or send an invoice of costs for the damages to the guest’s registered address. In such instances, the Inn would make every effort to mitigate the cost for repairing or replacing property damaged by a guest.

Force Majeure:
 We highly encourage guests to purchase travel insurance to protect them from unforeseeable circumstances that may require last minute cancellations.

Liability:
 Guests are personally liable for charges they incur during their stay. A person who, by means of a credit card or otherwise, books one or more rooms at the Inn on behalf of someone other than himself/herself (such as a person, a group, an association, a company) is personally liable (guarantees payment) to the Inn for all charges incurred - by the person, persons, group, association or company - that are owed to the Inn.    

Use of Personal Information:
 Any and all the information collected on this site will be kept strictly confidential and will not be sold, reused, rented, disclosed or loaned.

Eviction:  
Harbor House Inn reserves the right to ask any guest to immediately leave the property under one or more of the following circumstances:  
  1. If the guest begins to show any symptoms related to COVID-19, including but not limited to: Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fever, Chills, Repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat, New loss of taste or smell
  2. if the guest does not pay or lacks the ability to pay;
  3. if the guest overstays beyond the dates specified in the reservation contract without the Inn’s agreement;
  4. if the guest is drunk, disorderly or otherwise creates risk of harm to employees or other guests;
  5. if the guest is violating the law; and/or
  6. if the guest is ill with any “infectious, contagious or communicable disease.”
  7. If the guest does not follow property guidelines mandated by the CDC/County, two warnings from Staff will result in immediate eviction. Your stay will be charged in full 
Assumption of Risk: An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. By visiting the Harbor House Inn, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.
Acknowledgement of Last Minute Cancellations: Please keep in mind that your stay and/or dinner may be cancelled at any time by the Harbor House Inn, due to circumstances related to country health restrictions or any noted cases of COVID-19. Your deposit will be returned promptly to  you.

Assumption of Liability for Personal Injury:
In consideration for being a Guest at Harbor House Inn, all guests assume responsibility for the risks they take including, but not limited to, risks that arise from natural features of the property, cliffs, precipices, water pools, springs and tides, constructed objects, and living creatures – domestic and wild. Any guest who through their negligence or recklessness inflicts injury on another guest or animal shall be personally liable.

Items Left Behind: Guests who leave items behind, and request the item mailed back to them, will be required to pay a flat postage fee of $20.00. 

Lost Keys: Should you lose your key during your stay, your folio will be charged a $75 lost key fee. 

Quiet Hours: Quiet hours begin at 10:00PM each evening. Any complaints from other guests about loud noise coming from another room, including common areas, will result in a $700 fine after one warning has been given from management or staff. Guests not staying at the inn must vacate the premises by the start of quiet hours.
