Tucked away, in the center of it all, The Shaded Crest is a six-cabin retreat atop a hill on seven heavily wooded acres in Western North Carolina. It sits above Lake Lure and is 4 miles from Chimney Rock State Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a hike, a day on the lake or The Rocky Broad River, or a wandering drive to explore the many small towns or cities close to Lake Lure. We encourage our guests to spend the day taking in the natural allure of the surrounding areas and come back to take refuge lounging by the pool, grilling out, or cozying up in their cabin. The Shaded Crest is designed to accommodate every traveler's style; it is secluded yet accessible with communal spaces to meet fellow travelers while having a private space to retreat to.

As a small family-run business we rely on the commitment of our guests to stay in operation. For cancelations, within 14 days or more of arrival, a full refund will be issued. A 50% refund will be issued if canceling 8-14 days prior to check-in. No refunds will be given if canceling within 7 days prior to check-in. Reservations for holidays or holiday weekends cannot be canceled or refunded. "No Shows" will be charged for the entire reservation booked.
However, if your cabin gets rebooked for your dates, you will be notified and receive a full refund.
The Shaded Crest - Vacation Rental Agreement
THIS IS A VACATION RENTAL AGREEMENT UNDER THE NORTH CAROLINA VACATION RENTAL ACT. THE RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF THE PARTIES TO THIS AGREEMENT ARE DEFINED BY LAW AND INCLUDE UNIQUE PROVISIONS PERMITTING THE DISBURSEMENT OF RENT PRIOR TO TENANCY AND EXPEDITED EVICTION OF TENANTS. YOUR SIGNATURE WHETHER THROUGH ONLINE RESERVATIONS, BY TELEPHONE, OR IN PERSON, SIGNIFIES YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTAND, AND AGREE TO THIS RENTAL AGREEMENT IN ITS ENTIRETY.
RATES are subject to change and do not include local, state, and county occupancy taxes. Bed linens and towels are provided in each cabin. A cleaning fee is required per cabin. All rates are quoted per double occupancy. Additional guests will be charged $10 per guest. Children aged 6 and under stay free. All rooms have a maximum occupancy stated in their description. Occupancy more than allowed or occupants not registered will be asked to leave in accordance with NC Inn Keepers Hospitality Laws for early eviction, with no refunds. Cabins form a very close-knit community and we ask all guests to respect the privacy of other guests. Friends and family may come to pick you up but are refrained from using the amenities. We do NOT allow loud music that will disturb other guests. Sounds carry in the Hickory Nut Gorge area.
GUARANTEED RESERVATION: Management requires a valid credit card or personal check. 100% of the total booking is required at the time of reservation. Every guest must be registered regardless of age. Tenants are responsible for payment of all nights reserved regardless of late arrival or early departure. There is no exception to this rule as we are a small business depending upon our reservations. Any Tenant who cancels their credit card or issues an insufficient funds check is subject to NC General Statutes 14-110 on defrauding an innkeeper (see definition at bottom of page).

CHECK-IN time is 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Please call to make prior arrangements for late arrivals.
CHECK-OUT time is 10:00 a.m. Please call to make prior arrangements for late check-out. Housekeeping must have time to make the room ready for the next guest. All cabins are inspected/inventoried upon Tenant Check-out for any broken or missing items. Any items left behind by the tenant will require a pre-payment of postage costs before shipping. Keys must be returned to management upon checkout. Any key not returned will incur a $50 re-keying charge to their credit card.
PETS: We do not accept pets at this time. Owners have 2 people-friendly dogs that are supervised when outdoors. There are also 2 cats that are people-friendly and roam freely on the premises. Should a pet be discovered on the premises, a $100 cleaning fee shall be charged to your credit card, and immediate eviction of premises per NC expedited eviction procedures set forth in the Vacation Rental Act.
SMOKING: No smoking is allowed in any room or cabin; this includes vape pens. Smoking is allowed on outside porches, however, please keep your door closed so the smell does not enter your rooms. Any evidence of smoking inside a unit will elicit immediate eviction and a $150 cleaning fee. If there is a booking on the day of check-out, TENANT will be charged a 1-day rental fee charged to your credit card. We are surrounded by woods, please dispose of all cigarettes in a proper ashtray and not on the grounds. Smoking is not allowed within the fenced-in area of the pool. Please be respectful of other tenants who may also have allergies/asthma.
POOL: North Carolina Safety Regulations are posted for your protection. Use of these amenities is at the sole risk of the registered guest. No outside visitors are allowed inside the pool area. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parents at all times. Absolutely no glass containers inside the pool area. This includes Wine or beer bottles inside a protective covering. Plastic cups are provided in your cabin. Should you need more, please ask. If the glass is broken inside the pool TENANT will be charged the full cost of emptying, cleaning, and filling the pool. The pool is open from 9 am to 9 pm.
PARTIES: We are a close-knit community of 6 cabins and ask you to respect the rights and privacy of other guests. We offer a peaceful respite from daily stress. NO loud music or loud vehicles at any time. Unless you have rented the entire facility for your group, we ask that you refrain from parties. We welcome well-behaved children and require parents' supervision at all times. This Party provision is waived when the entire facility is rented for Weddings, reunions, celebrations, groups, etc.
CANDLES: Although we all love the ambiance of candles, they do pose a high risk to log cabins. We do not allow candles of any kind.
BAR-B-QUES: A gas grill and flat-top grill are provided in the outside communal area. No other grills or outdoor cooking appliances are allowed on any of the cabin porches or in other areas of the property.
CLEANING: There is a $50 charge for all 1-bedroom cabins and a $75 cleaning fee for the 2-bedroom. There is a 25% up-charge for 5 to 7-day rentals due to heavy use.
ACCIDENTAL RENTAL DAMAGE: Tenant understands and agrees on responsibility for any damages to the premises during the period of tenancy, including damages to both indoor and outdoor furnishings, equipment, and household items which result from the action or inaction of the TENANT, excluding normal wear and tear. Burns of any kind and stains to carpet and furnishings are not considered normal wear and tear. TENANT agrees to be responsible for any items found missing from premises following tenancy. Each unit is carefully inspected upon check-out. Damages incurred including reasonable attorney fees will be charged to the credit card on file upon notification of the tenant by management. TENANT may elect to purchase renters insurance coverage or trip interruption insurance for his protection.
TENANT OBLIGATIONS: TENANT agrees to comply with all obligations imposed by this Vacation Rental Act
Management is not responsible for the loss or damage to TENANT'S personal property, vehicles, or personal injuries or injuries to their guests. We aren't responsible for acts of Nature, power outages, criminal activities, or any other events or conditions beyond our control. Refunds (pro-rated) will be given only in the event of a mandatory evacuation of the area by local or state authorities.
TRANSFER OF PREMISES AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS: No transfer of premises by any TENANT is allowed without the expressed written agreement of management. No TENANT shall make reservations for persons under the age of 21, nor for school/church youth groups, sororities, fraternities, or like associations, without the expressed written agreement of management. Management reserves the right to refuse service deemed detrimental to premises or the privacy and rights of other tenants. All unlawful acts observed or suspected on premises will evoke immediate police eviction.
YOUR SIGNATURE Whether through an online reservation, by telephone, or in person, signifies you have read, understand and agree to this rental agreement in its entirety. Pursuant to North Carolina statutes the rights and obligations of all parties to this agreement are defined by law and include unique provisions permitting the disbursement of rent prior to tenancy and expedited eviction of tenants.
North Carolina Code General Statutes 14-110. Defrauding Inn Keeper. No person shall, with intent to defraud, obtain food, lodging, or other accommodations. Whoever violates this section shall be guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor. Obtaining such lodging by false pretense, or by false or fictitious show of pretense of baggage or other property, or absconding without paying or offering to pay therefor, or surreptitiously removing or attempting to remove such baggage, shall be prima facie evidence of such fraudulent intent. The innkeeper has the right to secure a warrant through the court system for your arrest. Such warrant is also filed against your credit report.
Expedited Eviction is set forth in the Vacation Rental Act. Tenant may be evicted under such procedures if Tenant (a) holds over in possession after Tenant tenancy has expired; (b) commits a material breach of any provisions of the Agreement (including any addendum or attachment hereto) that according to its terms would result in the termination of Tenants tenancy; (c) fails to pay rent as required by this Agreement; or (d) has obtained procession of the premises by fraud or misrepresentation.
