Your glamping experience on the Tarka Trail offers many
outdoor activities that will allow you to fill your boots and your days with
morning walks, breath taking views and many historical sites.
Enjoy our luxurious Tarka Trail camping pods which have
been uniquely styled with warmth, charm and character to cater perfectly for
couples, families and groups.
The famous Tarka Trail runs via our glamping site,
tracing the route of Tarka the Otter up the Torridge to Dartmoor and down to
the sea, and you can be hiking on High Willhays or surfing at Saunton Sands
within 45 minutes' drive.
With self-check-in/out you are safe, secure, but can
create your own holiday experience. Campfire packs are recommended! The
pods are cosy, fully furnished and have all the comforts of home including
electricity, running water, a mini-fridge and heating. The pods are part of
your holiday. Each pod features an expansive glazed entrance, tea & coffee
making facilities, a shower room and toilet and somewhere to sit and relax. The
set-up of the pod is for 2 adults and 2 kids (or under approx 5ft5) with a
comfy double bed and hotel-quality bed-linen included, plus integrated bunkbeds
tucked away.
Follow Tarka the Otter on foot south, walking through the
fields and deep lanes all the way to Dartmoor for a swim in Cranmere Pool, or
on foot or bike north down the old Torridge valley railway line trail to
Bideford and the sea, where Tarka's final encounter with Deadlock the hound
occured. Closer to home, follow in the footsteps of writers and rockstars,
drinking an Otter Ale at the famous Duke of York pub in the next village of
Iddesleigh (the inspiration for the film War Horse) like Ted Hughes and Michael
Morpurgo or walking the river meadows and bluebell woods along the Torridge at
Halsdon, where the late Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones lived from the
1970's. Like Tarka, you may meet Halcyon the kingfisher, Brock the badger or
humble Iggiwck the hedgehog in Halsdon nature reserve.
Activities locally include fly-fishing on the Torridge,
coarse fishing at Stafford Moor fishery, horse riding and, of course, walking
(ask your host for more details). Attractions include the RHS Rosemoor garden
and the Dartington glass factory tour at Torrington and the War Horse Valley
centre at Parsonage Farm in Iddesleigh, with museums of WWI and rural life and
farming, an opportunity to meet Joey the war horse as well as alpacas, pigmy
goats and all kinds of farm animals and, of course, a Devon farmhouse tea with
scones and clotted cream and jam.
