Welcome guests!
We are open and ready to welcome you.
Our hostel is ideally located in Halifax’s vibrant North End, surrounded by the best restaurants, independent arts and live music that the city has to offer, and we’re just a five-minute walk to the waterfront. If you are seeking a connection to local history, art and potential collaborators, this is your place. Halifax Backpackers is also the home of Alterego’s, a fair-trade café and licensed bar and restaurant that is woven into the fabric of the community. Wake up with a cup of coffee and an epic breakfast sandwich, or grab lunch or a snack to take with you on your next adventure, then wind down in the evening with a local beer or glass of wine. Friday and Saturday nights see us hosting a variety of evening events – from poetry slams to dance parties. Hospitality is at the heart of everything we do – and has been for more than 20 years. Our staff and owners are avid travellers who know exactly what you need to enjoy your stay and make your trip to Nova Scotia unforgettable. Our historic building is over 100 years old – in fact, it survived the Halifax Explosion. It boasts 10-foot ceilings, big, bright windows and original hardwood floors. Our handcrafted bunks are spacious and comfortable, in rooms that are airy and light. We have strong, reliable Wi-Fi, handy amenities like a fully equipped kitchen and laundry room, and clean, safe common spaces – everything you need to comfortably enjoy your stay. Whether you are here to explore Halifax, meet like-minded people, work on your next entrepreneurial project or just unplug for a while in a new city, we have rates and rooms that will accommodate your needs. Our space is equally comfortable for a two-day or a two-month stay, so whether you’re looking for a weekend getaway or need somewhere to call home while you build community and connect with the resources you need to make Halifax your home, we’re looking forward to welcoming you. Let us show you around.
