L'escale is a house situated in the heart of the village of Guéthary : staying here, you are a walk away from beautiful beaches, cafés, restaurants, market, surf spots, train and bus stations (St jean de Luz and Biarritz are 10 minutes away by public transport).
On the main floor, you will find the shared areas: a nice terrasse to hang out, a living room and a fully furnished kitchen.
On the first floor, we have one private room and 3 dorm rooms, for a capacity of 15 persons maximum. Each room has her own bathroom.
Buffet breakfast is included.
Our focus is to make this space feels like a home away from home for you, a place where you will meet new friends or reunite with old ones. Most importantly a house for sharing good vibes.
As we want you to enjoy your holidays to the maximum, we offer different services such as surfboard rental, laundry service, shower towel rental, inside boards rack for guest coming with their own board(s), and free wifi.
Of course, you don't have to surf to stay at our place ! But if you do, we will be able to tell you about which spot to go depending on the forecast of the day, or give you contacts of local surf schools and partners so you can book a surf lesson.

Property and Cancelation Policies :
1. Cancellation window
- Guests may cancel their reservation free of charge up to 14 days before the arrival date. The 50% deposit made during booking will be refunded.
- Cancellations made between 14 and 1 day prior to arrival will result in the forfeiture of the 50% deposit.
- If a guest does not check in on the scheduled arrival date without prior notice, or cancels 1 day before arrival, the full reservation amount will be charged and is non-refundable.
- Unfortunately, we are unable to issue vouchers or credits for future bookings in the event of a cancellation or booking modification.
- If you wish to shorten your stay and notify us at least 14 days before the arrival date, we will adjust the booking free of charge.
- Requests to shorten a booking within 14 days of the arrival date will result in a charge of 50% of the canceled nights, as part of the non-refundable deposit.
- Late arrivals or early departures cannot under any circumstances give rise to a refund. Transportation problems (flights, trains, Uber, etc.) remain the responsibility of the renter and do not constitute sufficient grounds to obtain a refund of the reservation.
- Guests who decide to shorten their stay after check-in will be charged for the entire duration of the original booking. No refunds will be issued for unused nights.
- All cancellation or modification requests must be sent via email to lescalesurfhostel@gmail.com. Please include your name, reservation details, and booking dates in your request. (Please note that voicemail messages will not be considered.)
- You will receive a confirmation email once your cancellation or modification has been processed. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact us to ensure your request was received.
We value transparency and want to provide insight and a better understanding into why these policies are necessary:
- Budget Constraints: As a small hostel, we operate on thin margins, and consistent income is vital.
- Advance Bookings: Once a bed is reserved, we often turn away other potential guests, making cancellations a financial challenge.
- Administrative Costs: Processing cancellations and refunds requires time and resources.
- Seasonal Variability: During peak seasons, we rely on advance bookings to manage demand, and last-minute cancellations can disrupt operations as less people book their holidays last minute during this period.
Terms and Conditions
Prices and Taxes
All our rates include taxes: TVA (10%) and City tax (1.15€/person/night).
Payment
To confirm your booking, we require a 50% deposit. The remaining 50% is payable upon arrival at the hostel. Before departure, any additional nights, rentals or services booked during your stay must also be settled.
- Online Payments: Payments made through online bookings are processed securely via Stripe.
- On-Site Payments: We accept debit and credit cards (Mastercard, Visa), payments processed securely via Stripe or cash.
- Check-In: From 2:30 PM. Please notify us of your estimated arrival time if you arrive after 6.30pm.
- Check-Out: By 10:30 AM.
The front desk is open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For arrivals after 7:00 PM, we will leave a letter for you on the main door or send you all the necessary information to access your room
We regret that pets are not permitted in the hostel.
Minimum Age Requirement
We welcome guests aged 18 and above.
Children and individuals under 18 years old are not allowed in the accommodation.
Non-Smoking Policy
Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the hostel. However, it is permitted on the terrace.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, our rooms are not wheelchair accessible.
We do not have private parking facilities. However, all public parking areas in the town are free of charge. Conveniently, there is a parking area located just 50 meters down the street from the hostel. Guests are kindly requested to use these designated public parking spaces.
Theft, Loss, and Damage
The hostel is not responsible for any theft, loss, or damage to guest's personal belongings during their stay. We recommend securing valuables in the provided lockers. Please note that the lockers are not large enough to fit entire bags, but they are sufficient for storing valuables such as passports, electronics, laptop and small personal items. Guests are advised to take personal responsibility for their belongings.
Alcohol and drugs
Guests are permitted to bring their own alcohol for personal consumption in designated areas. However, the consumption of excessive alcohol or any illegal drugs will not be tolerated.Guests are expected to follow local laws and hostel guidelines regarding alcohol and drug use. Any violation may result in immediate expulsion from the hostel without refund.

- Complaints and Issues
- If you encounter any issues during your stay (e.g., room conditions, service quality, noise, etc.), please inform the front desk immediately. We will make every effort to address your concerns as quickly as possible.
- Complaints made after check-out will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but we strongly encourage you to report any issues during your stay to allow us the opportunity to resolve them.
- Dispute Resolution
- We aim to resolve any disputes or misunderstandings amicably. If a resolution cannot be reached at the front desk or through direct communication with management, we may suggest a third-party mediation service to facilitate a fair outcome.
- Any disputes related to bookings, payments, or policies should first be addressed directly with our management team. If resolution is not achieved, legal action may be pursued according to the laws and regulations of the location where the hostel is situated.
- Behavior and Conduct
- We expect all guests to treat our staff and fellow guests with respect. Abusive behavior, threats, or actions that disrupt the peace and safety of the hostel may result in immediate removal from the property without a refund.
- The hostel reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who violates our terms and conditions or engages in inappropriate conduct.
- Damage or Loss of Property
- Guests are responsible for any damage to hostel property caused during their stay. In the event of damage, the hostel reserves the right to charge the guest for repairs or replacements.
- We are not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings during your stay. Guests are advised to use lockers for storing valuables, as described in our theft policy.
- Refund and Cancellation Disputes
- For disputes regarding cancellations, refunds, or booking modifications, we refer to our Cancellation Policy. Any disagreement with the terms of the cancellation policy will be handled based on the details outlined in the policy.
- Legal Rights
- This policy is subject to the laws and regulations of the region in which the hostel operates. Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights as a guest.
- L'escale Surf Hostel is not liable for any loss, damage, or injury to guests or their belongings during their stay. Guests are responsible for their personal items and actions.
- The hostel is not liable for any indirect, special, or consequential damages, including but not limited to personal injury, loss of property, or loss of income, arising from the use of hostel facilities or services.
- L'escale Surf Hostel will not be held responsible for any failure to perform or delay in performance of its obligations under these terms due to events or circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, government actions, strikes, pandemics, or other unforeseen circumstances.
- In such events, the hostel reserves the right to cancel or modify bookings or services, and no compensation or refund will be due to the guest unless explicitly stated otherwise.
