Our family’s resort is an eclectic blend of accommodations that is sure to have something for everyone. Our offerings range from our premier rooms that are spacious, well-appointed and feature a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean to more simple rooms available for those travelling on a budget to mid-range offerings as well. In addition to our property (featuring 24 rooms within 4 buildings), we also manage several other properties on the Island each including our famous hospitality and excellent service. While visiting us you will find comfort, relaxation, and friendly hosts working to ensure that your stay is as memorable as Block Island itself. No credits or refunds will be given for early departures or no shows.

The Montauk, New London, Newport, and Point Judith high speed ferries tend to cancel more frequently. Please be aware that as long as the Traditional Point Judith Ferry runs and the New England Airlines fly, you are still responsible to honor your reservation.
Please be aware that the ferry schedule is much more limited after Labor Day. If you have made a hotel reservation after these boats are no longer running, you are still expected to find your way to the island.

Terms and Conditions

Deposit & Cancellation Policy

All stays must be pre-paid in full at the time of reservation. We accept Visa, Master, and Discover cards - no American Express. All cancellations are charged a fee of 10% of the reservation amount and must be made at least 15 days prior to arrival. In the fourteen days immediately prior to arrival the full reservation cost is NON-REFUNDABLE and no changes are permitted to the reservation. No credits or refunds will be given for early departures or no shows. The Montauk, New London, Newport, and Point Judith high speed ferries tend to cancel more frequently. Please be aware that as long as the Traditional Point Judith Ferry runs and the New England Airlines fly, you are still responsible to honor your reservation. Please be aware that the ferry schedule is much more limited after Labor Day. If you have made a hotel reservation after these boats are no longer running, you are still expected to find your way to the island. If you need to make a change to your reservations, please let us know. There is no "fee" for changing, but if your change results in a credit to your credit card, there will be a 10% cancellation fee assessed on the credit amount. Any changes made MUST still meet minimum night requirements (Most weekends or holidays require at least a 3 night minimum stay as well as any stay in July or August on week days is a 2 night minimum). Because of credit card regulations, all cancellations for reservations within two weeks of arrival must be received in writing. Please be sure to note your confirmation number and your name. If you have booked through an on-line reservation service (i.e. Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, etc.), you will need to cancel directly through that service. They will then notify us in writing of your cancellation. For group reservations (eight rooms or more), advance notice of six weeks is required for multiple cancellations or changes to the reservations. 

Air Conditioning

There is air-conditioning in the rooms in the following buildings: The 1661 Inn, Guest House, Mitchell Cottage, Nicholas Ball Cottage, Dodge Cottage, and Hendrickson House.

Arrival and Departure Information

All guests should check in at The 1661 Inn on Spring Street. If you are staying at the Narragansett, please check in at the Front Desk at the Narragansett location in New Harbor. Guest rooms are usually ready for occupancy by 3:00 p.m. Please come to The 1661 Inn when you arrive to the Island. If your room is ready early, you may check-in early and if not you may leave your luggage in our lobby (security cameras on location). Check out is by 11:00 am. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate late check-out requests. Luggage storage in our lobby is also available upon departure. Additionally, we have a shower available at The 1661 Inn for all of our guests who would like to enjoy the full day on Block Island and clean up before leaving the Island after 11:00 am.

Breakfast

In the off season from Indigenous Peoples' Day to Mother's Day, we will be offering a Complimentary Continental breakfast. For 2024 we will be offering our Champagne Buffet Breakfast from Mother's Day weekend through Indigenous Peoples' Day at The 1661 Inn. Guests of the resort will receive a reduced rate of $15.00 per person and complimentary mimosas. There is no charge for children five and under and breakfast for children ages six to twelve is $8.00 per child. 

Check In

All guests should check in at the 1661 Inn on Spring Street. Guest rooms are usually ready for occupancy by 3 pm. Please come to The 1661 Inn when you arrive to the Island. If your room is ready early, you may check-in early and if not you may leave your luggage in our lobby (security cameras on location). Please have a photo ID and credit card ready at the Front Desk. Only the person whose name is on the reservation will be allowed to check in. You must be 21 to check-in to your room. 

Check Out

Checkout is at 11:00 am. Please return your keys to the Front Desk upon checkout. The bellhop is available to take you to the airport or ferry landings upon departure (complimentary).  To make a reservation, please ask the front desk before noon on the day of your departure. If you fail to checkout by 11:00 am, you may be assessed a late check out fee. 

Children

We welcome children of all ages at The 1661 Inn, 1661 Guest House, Mitchell Cottage, Nicholas Ball Cottage, Dodge Cottage, & Hendrickson House. Rates are based on double occupancy. There is no charge for children under the age of 5. The extra charge for additional guests ages five and older is $25.00 per night. We do not have any cots available, although you are welcome to bring a sleeping bag or air mattress. We are happy to provide sheets and towels for you. Not all rooms are large enough to accommodate additional guests. Please be sure to confirm your accommodations if you are traveling with more than two guests.

Damage and/or Theft of Hotel Property

You are liable for any damage howsoever caused (whether by deliberate, negligent, or reckless act) to the room(s), hotel’s premises or property caused by you or any person in your party, whether or not staying at the hotel during your stay. 

There is No Cooking in the Hotel Rooms

There is no cooking permitted in Hotel Rooms. Guests are prohibited from bringing appliances into the rooms. The exception is the Kathryn Sullivan Room at Dodge Cottage, which has a full kitchen.

Lost and Found Policy

The 1661 Inn assumes no liability for lost, misplaced, stolen, or damaged valuables or belongings. If you discover that you have left behind something of value to you, please call us immediately 401-466-2421 or email office@biresorts.com and we will try to assist you in locating your lost item. The 1661 Inn is not responsible for any item left behind by a guest, this includes luggage left in the lobby. However, any item, with the exception of perishable items, left behind by our guests and found after departure by Housekeeping will be collected, logged in, and kept in a secure location for collection by the owner for up to fourteen (14) days. Reasonable effort will be made to notify the guest that an item has been found. Perishable items, underwear, and miscellaneous toiletries are discarded.

Noise Complaints/Parties

The 1661 Inn enforces quiet hours from 10pm - 8am to ensure our guests peace and comfort. No parties, loud disturbances and/or noise-nuisances are allowed or tolerated on any property. In the event of a disturbance, you may be asked to leave the hotel without refund or assessed a Guest Compensation Disturbance Fee.

Parking & Bikes

There is free outdoor parking available for all of our guests at The 1661 Inn and at our farm. There is no parking available at the Hendrickson House, although you are welcome to park at the farm. There is limited parking available at the Dodge Cottage (overflow parking is available at the farm). The only parking at the Dodge Cottage is all the way around the back-not on the lawn (this includes scooters). There are outdoor bike racks available at all of our buildings. Unfortunately, we do not have any indoor bike storage available. Fire Marshall regulations prohibit bringing bicycles into your rooms or in the hallways and this is strictly enforced. We do suggest that you bring a lock with you.

Pets

Sorry, pets and support animals are not allowed in any of our hotel rooms or apartments. Service animals are permitted as required by law. The 1661 Inn will apply a $500 cleaning fee to any guest room that violates this policy. 

Quiet Season Visits

If you are visiting the Island between Indigenous Peoples’ Day and mid-May, please note that you will find dining options to be limited. During these dates (particularly December through March), there are sometimes days when there are no full service restaurants open and the restaurants that are open do not always have predictable schedules. The grocery store is open year-round with a consistent schedule. The only ferry that runs year round is from Pt. Judith, RI (www.blockislandferry.com).

Room Keys

 You are responsible to return your keys to the staff at the Front Desk upon check out. If you fail to return your keys, a charge of $20/key will be placed on your credit card on file. 

Smoking

 There is no smoking (including e-cigarettes) allowed on property. Candles, incense, essential oils (diffusing, vaporizing, etc.) are prohibited. Guests or members of the public who breach the policy will be asked to stop smoking and if they fail to comply will be asked to leave the premises. A $500 fee will be charged to the credit card on file for any violation of this policy.

Wi-Fi

There is free limited wi-fi available at the following buildings: The 1661 Inn and Dodge Cottage.. There is no wi-fi available at the Hendrickson House. Internet service on Block Island is slower than what guests are typically accustomed to finding.

• Two-night minimum for every stay in July and August
July 4th Holiday:
• Four-night minimum over the Fourth of July holiday
July 6th through September 4th:
• Three-night minimum if the stay includes a Saturday
Labor Day through November 5th:
• No minimum Sunday through Thursday
• Two-night minimum on Friday & Saturday
November 6th through March 28th:
• No minimum Sunday through Thursday
• No minimum on Friday & Saturday for standard rooms
• Two-night minimum on some weekends on rooms that feature a whirlpool tub or ocean view. 
Generally, weekend stays require a two-night minimum and summer & holiday weekends may require a three or four-night minimum. Please contact us for specific policies. Occasionally, shorter weekend stays are available. Please call our reservations office to check specific availability.
