The Chico Basin Ranch has hosted guests for vacations
that revolve around a large-scale working ranch since
2000. Guests are intimately involved in all ranch life to
the extent that they desire, whether this be on horseback,
fixing fences, or putting feed out for the cattle. We have
found that contributing to the daily ranch activities gives
our guests the biggest thrill, so our programs have been
developed to ensure that our guests are a part of the daily
work’s success.
There are ample opportunities to take time off on your
own for hiking, wildlife viewing, swimming, or fishing in
one of the ranch’s five lakes. During the spring and fall,
there is a bird banding station on the ranch. Part of one of
the biggest migratory flyways in Colorado, the ranch has
recorded sightings of over 320 bird species.
Guests at Chico Basin Ranch must be at least an intermediate horseback riders, able to ride long distances trotting for up to 6 - 8 hours. Think of yourself as part of the team working alongside our crew. You will be staying in one of two guest rooms that share a bathroom and kitchen. Cook yourself breakfast and lunch from your fully stocked fridge and accompany our staff for dinner each evening in the comfort of their home. A very personal and authentic ranching experience.

Property and Cancelation Policies :
If a confirmed booking is canceled more than 30 days in advance of arrival date, 50% of the deposit is refundable and 45% is retained as a credit, redeemable for a future stay within two years from scheduled arrival date. The remaining 5% is retained as an administrative fee. If a confirmed booking is canceled within 30 days of arrival date, 100% of the deposit is forfeited as non-refundable. If a new government-mandated travel ban that directly affects your itinerary is put into place between the time of booking and time of stay, your full deposit will remain on file as a credit for two years, less a 5% administrative fee. Travel insurance is highly recommended in order to protect yourself from unforeseen circumstances that may interfere with your stay.
Terms and Conditions
- All tips are optional but greatly appreciated and will be pooled to be shared across our team.
- We do not provide alcohol, please feel free to bring your own. The nearest liquor store is 30 minutes away so we encourage you to make a stop prior to arriving at the ranch.
- Self-service laundry facilities are available to you during your stay for no additional cost.
- A member of our staff makes a trip to town twice a week. Should you need something during your stay, we will be happy to retrieve it for you on this bi-weekly trip.
- Check in is from 2pm - 5pm, check out is at 10am. Do let us know if you will be arriving after 5pm as we will arrange for you to check in with our dining staff.
- We cannot accommodate pets.
- Ranch vacation guests may bring and board their horses at the ranch for $25/night. We provide an outdoor stall with dirt floor and water. We require proof of Coggins/health certificate, guests supply their own feed, must trailer their horse to the day's riding locations, and must be accompanied by staff member on all rides
- Access to the corrals or other areas on the ranch is limited to guests on a guided tour.
