The Property

Ocotea Boutique Hotel is located in the beautiful Monteverde region, an important part of the Costa Rican cloud forest. It is recognized as one of the most exceptional areas for botanists, birders and nature lovers alike. The hotel is surrounded by the lush greenery and biodiversity that makes Monteverde famous around the world. Less than 1% of the world is classified as Cloud Forest, and that makes much of the flora and fauna around the hotel both rare and exotic.

The sights, sounds and smells found here under the canopy are unique and awe inspiring, giving guests an immersive experience like no other.

The property is operated by a local family, with extensive experience in hospitality and tourism, and a deep and abiding love for the land on which the hotel rests.

The new Ocotea Boutique Hotel is for guests over 10 years of age, and provides a quiet escape for the outside world. It consists of two buildings with a total of 21 rooms. All rooms are non-smoking and include a variety of amenities and services designed to provide comfort, relaxation and enjoyment. Wi Fi , daily house keeping and 24 hours security stand out as some of the complimentary services.

Those with a yen to be zen can satisfy their needs with a luscious massage or delectable treatment in the Lauracea Massage Room.

Building 1 houses a total of 15 rooms, 11 Dosel on the second floor, and 4 Sotobosque on the ground floor, including one accesible room.

Building 2 houses 6 rooms, the Ocotea - our very best- and 2 Dosel on the second floor. 3 Sotobosque on the ground floor.

Nectandra Restaurant

Open for breakfast daily from 06:30 to 09:30, brunch-style lunch from 11:00 to 17:00 and dinner from 18:00 to 21:00.

Start your day with fresh ground Costa Rican coffee. Enjoy delicious food while listening to sweet melodies of the forest birds outside. This beautiful restaurant has a soothing modern style, and overlooks a garden filled with flora and fauna indigenous to Monteverde.

Enjoy the tastes of Costa Rica with a wide variety of your favourite breakfast options. Or try a typical Costa Rican breakfast known as "gallo pinto".   Ocotea is proud to use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and products from Monteverde’s highlands. This includes locally grown coffee beans, fresh handmade cheeses and delicious local fruits and vegetables.

Monteverde Rooftop Bar & Cafeteria

Open from 15:00 until 22:00 Monteverde Rooftop is a Café & Bar located in the highest part of the Hotel. From here you can enjoy a stunning 360-degree view of mountains, the cloud forest and the Gulf of Nicoya.

The sun sets early in Costa Rica (approx. 17:30), because of its proximity to the equator. It’s impossible to describe the beautiful colors produced as the sun drops down over the Gulf of Nicoya and dips gently down into the Pacific Ocean. Be sure to schedule at least one sunset on the Rooftop so you can see it for yourself.   Every seat at The Monteverde Rooftop has a spectacular view. Enjoy the amazing scenery with a delicious cocktail. Or choose from a selection of high quality wines, paired with a variety of delicious delicacies. Every item on the menu uses only the best fresh locally-sourced ingredients.

**If you’re an early riser, feel free to spend your morning curled up on the Rooftop with a mug of fresh coffee. Nothing starts your day as well as watching the sun rise majestically over the canopy.

Gaze in awe as it gently illuminates each tree one leaf at a time before bursting into view. Watch it spread its warm glow up into the sky as it lightens from darkest purple to brightest blue. It's a truly unique and inspiring experience.
